The town Turcianske Teplice has been successful in the INTRREG Program IIIA the Slovak Republic – the Czech Republic within the frame of which it obtained 5.6 million SKK as the grant from the EU and the state resources for the Project “Clean Town through Children’s Eyes”. The Project realization is planned from July 2006 to September 2007. The Project activities are aimed at support of cooperation between the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic in the environmental area with the focus on waste separation. The intention of the Project is to provide for waste separation increase campaign by involving the children from Turcianske Teplice and Valasske Mezirici (a partnership town from the Czech Republic). By the campaign led by children we want to motivate adults to separate waste and create functional complex separation system. In October and November 2006 each household, either in houses or apartments, gets the waste separation bins including the bin for bio-waste. Similar bins are going to be delivered to schools, offices, banks, and other organizations in the town area; the big waste containers are going to be provided for the whole town. Both these activities for the improvement and enhancement of the town cleanness are going to be supported by publicity, meetings with the residents, press conferences, cultural and social events, experiences exchange with the Czech partner. We believe that after 15 months of implementing the Project we will be able to observe that our town increases waste separation at least by 50 per cent.
